Sustainability Movie from the outlook for someday

I watched a video from the outlook for someday explaining what sustainability means. First is what sustainability is. Sustainability is the environment, economy and society working together to keep the sustainability in balance. If one of them were to be removed sustainability while no longer be sustainable to anything.  I watched a video from the outlook for someday and it included bees and why we shouldn't kill them. The bees are important to sustainability because they keep the environment clean by putting the pollen on plants and this helps grow more plants or to help them grow to be healthy. PES Y6 Kawau Traditions and activities

Last week on tuesday the year 6 children at Pt England school went to Kawau Island. We got split up into eight groups but 2 groups were named the same and just had A and B at the end. So there were actually 4 groups. There are lots of activities and traditions for PES when we go to Kawau.

One of the traditions are that every year all the groups do a special item and there are 2 judges picking who comes 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th. My group did a very short item which the judges didn't really like. So Kats (My team) came 4th, Kawau came 3rd, Mansion came 2nd and Benson came 1st.

Confidence course was my favourite activity because it was pretty easy. It was called the con course or confidence course because it was to show how confident you were. All you had to do was make your way over a obstacle or past it. Ohh yeah I even got a prize for being the best girl to do it, the prize was chocolate.

My second favourite activity was abseiling. Just so you were wondering it is NOT sailing in a boat it is going up a wall then down it. This was my second favourite because I liked it when we came down the wall the tips we  got were to lower your self like a jaw bridge. I was the only one who put thumb to bum in my group, thumb to bum is to help you when you want to stop coming down the wall and to have a little rest.

If I had the  opportunity to go back I would. So you should go to Kawau.

Wild Life

Tomorrow we are leaving to Kawau Island and we were told to research the wildlife on Kawau Island so we know what web are seeing there. I chose 3 things and here they are check it out.

Here is the history that I found out about Kawau Island:
Kawau Island is one of the largest islands in the Hauraki Gulf. Kawau was named after the Kawaupaka. Did you know Kawau is one of the most beautiful islands of the Hauraki Gulf and one of the richest in history. Kawau Island was purchased by Sir George Grey in 1862. Sir George Grey had an interest in the natural sciences, and was an enthusiastic collector of plants and animals from around the world. At the time Sir George Grey was serving his second term as governor.

Being a Good Friend

WALT: explain to your reader what being a good friend means.

Have you been a good friend? If you haven’t well your lucky you are looking at this because I am going to tell you how to be a great friend yes not a good friend a GREAT friend.

Step one is not to judge on what they look like. Just because they look weird or smell funny doesn’t mean they're not your friend, especially if they changed from cool to fool. It’s not what is happening on the outside it’s what’s on the inside. Just like how people say, don’t judge a book by it’s cover.

Step two is respecting one another. This is really important because if you don’t do this good luck searching for another friend. Respecting your friend means that you won't laugh at them when they say something only shared between you and him or her. You also shouldn’t laugh if they fall down or do something weird, unless it was meant to be funny.

Lastly, step three always tell the truth. This is also really important because if your friend doesn't trust you well um, DUN DUN DUN! This step may seem hard but if you try it will be easy peasy trust me. Well there isn’t really anything to do for this because all your doing is saying the right things. Like if they ask you where someone went you would reply with, they went to the park.

So remember don’t judge by the looks, Respect one another and always tell the truth or…

Being fit

Did you know your body is an amazing machine? It just needs to be used every day to keep it working well.

Excizie keeps your body strong and fit. Fitness means having the energy to work, play and do all the things you want to do easily. Your body cannot store fitness, so you need to exercise regularly to stay fit.

Exercise makes you feel and look better. It keeps your body a healthy weight, It helps you relax and sleep better and when you exercise your body produces chemicals called endorphins which go to you brain and make you feel good.

Exercise for strength makes your Muscles stronger so you can work different parts or your body with out feeling weak. Exercise for stamina makes your heart and lungs stronger and helps blood flow easily around your body. Staminer is the ability to exercise for longer without getting tired or out of breath.

So you need to move it!

Symbol

This week in Extension we had to create our own symbols representing something special about our families. But before we started we had to pick a partner to discus what is special so I picked Ariana. We had a little discussion and she talked about cook island dancing and that was what she picked. I told her to do something about my culture's, Cook Island, Niuean and Tahitian.

After we decided what the symbols were we started to draw but instead of me drawing my own  we had to switch which is when I do Ariana's symbol and she does mine. We only had about half an hour to finish it. I think Ariana's drawing came out pretty good, I really like how she wrote which island is which.

Capitals

WALT: write an explanation telling people what capitals letters are and when you use them.

Do you know what capital letters are? If you don’t well you're in luck I know a lot about what they are. The first thing you need to know is that the name for the letters are called uppercase letters or capitals, Little kids like to call it big letters.

You can use Capitals at the start of sentences. There are lot’s of ways to use Capitals for example at the start of this sentence, can you see the uppercase letter. You can also use them after a question mark or explanation mark.

Another time you can use uppercase letters are for the name of a day or month. For instance, today is Wednesday the 15th of October 2014. Can you see that I put a capital for the day and the month, these are referred to dates. Of Course you can see it I highlighted it yellow. One more way you can use it as dates are holidays like Christmas or Halloween and more.

Names of people are another way of using uppercase letters. For example, My friends name is Ariana, or My name is Khaia. There are also other names that start with capitals but that will be explained in the next paragraph. So now lets move on to the next way you can use uppercase letters.

Place names can also have capital letter’s to start with. Another way of saying place names are called geographical places. For example, “I love going to Mcdonalds because the food there is delicious” I said Mcdonalds because it is a geographical place. I could also say, “I live in GI which is in Auckland, New Zealand.

So I guess by now you know a lot about what capital letters are and how to use them. So remember you need capitals so that your paragraph or sentence will make sense and so your reader will know what you are writing about.

If people keep being greedy, then we could run out of Kaimoana in our oceans.
Agree
“But if people are greedy and take too much, or take the young ones before they grow big enough to reproduce themselves, then the fridge will get cleaned  out”

“M.A.F* Has set rules about size and number of all the kinds of kaimoana you can take.”

Para 3
You need a permit to collect more than what you need for yourself.
Agree
“Anyone can come and get a permit for that”

Para 7
What do you think?
Complete this Agree or Disagree activity based on what you think!

Statement
Do you agree or Disagree
Explain why you agree or disagree
There is no need for Fisheries officers, people should be able to get how ever much Kaimona they need.
Disagree
Because if there aren’t anyone looking out for people taking to much than the ocean would have no more kaimoana.
No one should be allowed to catch their own Kaimona. People should only be able to get them from the shops.
Disagree
Because if everyone just keeps on going to the shop to buy seafood than the shop would have no more and the people who get the stuff from the ocean to put in the shop would have to stop working because there will be no more Kaimoana if they just keep going back to the ocean and getting a lot more fish.

News Article

Movie Makers
Kids from Tamaki have the opportunity to create movies to show in the Film Festival at Sylvia Park Hoyts Cinemas, Xtreme Screen.

There are 12 of schools from Tamaki that have joined the Film Festival. That doesn't mean that there are that many films. In fact all the classes from each school submit movies and they are all shown on the extreme screen.

Kids have been asking why do they have a Film Festival. We have Mrs Burt, who is hosting the Manaiakalani Film Festival, from Pt England school to tell you why, “ We hold the Film Festival so that our children have the opportunity to see their work on the biggest screen in the southern hemisphere, We also have it because I want everyone to see how awesome and fabulous our kids are, I am very proud of our kids.”

What do people think about the film festival? Brooklyn’s here from Pt England School to tell you what she thinks about the Film Festival, “ I think it is really fun for all the kids to see what their movies are about and see what creativity they have.” Now lets talk to Lucy from the same school, “It’s cool because the kids can make their own movies with a little help from their teacher”

All the kids are excited for the next Film Festival which is next year. If you want to see previous movies, type this link in your computer and it will come up with all the movies that have shown on the screen, be warned there are a lot of movies. https://sites.google.com/a/ptengland.school.nz/film-festival-2011/home

Story Line Reflection

Last week year 5, 6, 7, 8 went down to the Vodafone event center to see 4 special authors. The names were   Juliette MclverCath MayoJill MacGregorPaula Green. (You can click on the names to see the sites) My favourite author would have to be Paula green. I liked her because she is really good at rhyming (Sorry to the others) but she wasn't the only one, there was also Juliette Mclver who was my second favourite. I guess I like them because I am just interested in the beat and the rhyms.

If I were on the stage having to present what kinds of books I have and what I have been studding I would have froze or even forget what to say. I think I would have like to have more time to learn about them and understand why they were doing all of these things.

f one of the authors are reading this right know all I would want to say is thank you for giving up your time to share the things that you have been doing to us and it would be great if you left me a comment.

Vocabulary

In class moas were reading a book called breadfruit chips and it told us how to make. This is about the vocab and explaining it.

AND THIS IS WHY I WOULDN'T WANT TO LIVE IN AFGHANISTAN!
