Championship Soapbox derby

On April 7th Puwhai, Ana, my dad, Mr Jacobson, Mrs Jacobson, Stevenson and his mum and family and my mum and sisters and I went to the championships for soapbox derby at whangaparoa and my dad joined the pit crew!!. He helped Mr J fix some missing screws on our kart luckily he knows all about cars because thats his favourite hobby. CARS!
I hoped that we would make it so we could go to America. Did you know once you lose a race you leave straight away!

When we got there we still had another hour to go because our first race was at 9:00am. We enjoyed having our photos taken and enjoyed watching the parade and Stevenson and Mr J was in it! My pit crew was only the three girls again ( Ana, Puwai and myself )but we knew what to do so we were prepared. There were so many teams and some teams had more then one kart! The day was going to be hot again and everyone was ready for a good day.

As we were waiting we watched the first cars race down It was a really long steep and curvy hill. After the three races it was our turn we also got a ride up and it was fun. When we got to the top we weighed the car. Then we set it up, polishing it and making sure Stevenson was ok for his race. Stevenson was all set for his turn and off he went. On the mic we heard the guy say "Stevenson nearly had a little accident but he managed to save it". We were all worried and hope he made it down safely. When we went back to the pits we won buy 0.22 seconds it was that close. Stevenson nearly crashed into the barriers but he was still the fastest time and he was ok.

On the second race on our way up in the van Mr jacobson looked like he was going to fall out luckily he didn't. When our driver Stevenson went down he lost but its not about who won its about the fastest time so we had 20% chance that we made it through to next round. We waited patiently for the results but once it came back we didnt make it through. So we all decided to pack up everything and go home. We were all gutted but at least we made it that far and worked together but I really wanted to go to America. Maybe next year I'll go because I'll be the driver, fingers x!

Thank you Mr J and Mrs J for a great day and a wonderful experience being part of the soap box derby. Mr J has an American Indian call he always likes to do so with that, PES ROCKS! (Indian call).

  5. Thanks for the holiday read! Well done for making it so far in the competition. Hard luck about missing out this time but like you said, there's always next year!

As per usual your writing is excellent. Descriptive as well as interesting. I like how you remembered capital letters for all the names. Sometimes young writers forget those minor details a. Remember names of places also have capital letters too ;)

Good luck for next year! M
